MY JOURNEY TO PORTUGAL
NAGUESH RAO SARDESSAI
‘My Journey to Portugal’, an exhibition of paintings by
Deviprasad C Rao, has come to Goa after showing at New Delhi and Mumbai. The
show, hosted by The Consul General of Portugal in Goa and Carpe Diem Art
Gallery, Majorda, has paintings exhibiting the impressions Deviprasad gathered
of Portugal.
Impressed by enamoured by the architectural wealth,
enchanting skyline and warmth of the citizens there, Deviprasad was infused
with irrepressible passion to give it a tangible form. Painting being his
natural source of channelizing the gathered impressions and experience, he gave
it cognizable form employing lines, colours and texture.
A typical maverick in his approach towards art in general
and stylistic approach in particular, Deviprasad has been experimenting all
along since he began putting brush to canvas. Spontaneity in the process is
held firm by infusion of rational tinkering wherever needed, making his pieces
of creative painting approachable and viewer friendly.
His fascination for architecture grew into inspiration after
working with architects a few years back. City skyline, majestic castles and
monasteries dotting the Portuguese landscape remains the overwhelming influence
and point of impression and inspiration for these past several years.
Soft layer of pigment with translucent character, structured
by delicate black lines and fine decorative embellishments, transforms the
noted spots of Portugal in a creative form.
Deviprasad has studied and lived at different places
during the course of his life, including Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa and
believes in adding colour to life of people around with his multi-hued
paintings.
The paintings were on view at Carpe Diem Art Gallery from
August 24 to September 13, 2017.
